Most visitors to Maui come for the snorkeling, golf, surfing or the natural beauty of dormant volcanoes, majestic waterfalls or clear crystal pools. But there’s also plenty of arts and culture to be found in Maui, most of which tourists can discover at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
The Maui Arts & Cultural Center opened in 1994 in Kahului. Its founders envisioned a place where community members could gather and celebrate together, a first-class venue for the world’s top artists and an educational resource serving visitors of all ages. The Maui Arts and Culture Center has fulfilled this vision many times over.
The Maui community has long supported the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Thousands of people – both on and off the island – have contributed over $30 million to support this non-profit Arts and Culture Center.
Today, the center serves more than 250,000 people every year and holds regular music and theater productions, hula festivals, symphonies, ballet recitals, traditional taiko drumming and much much more.
Visitors to the center might stumble upon an acrobatics session, a professional storyteller weaving a tale or a busy children’s art class.
Many well known Hawaiian artists have also displayed their painting, sculptures and multi-media creations at the center and many top international music bands such as UB40 and Sheryl Crow have performed there.
The Maui Arts & Cultural Center may not be the first stop tourists pencil into their schedules.
But it’s definitely worth a visit, so try and fit it into your schedule.
If you get time go online and view their list of upcoming events to see if there is anything you would like to attend.
Popular events can often get sold out so it is always advisable to book early to avoid disappointment.
