Championship-level golf courses, white-sand beaches and award-winning tennis complexes are all part of the amenities at the Kapalua resort area in Maui. It’s little wonder, then, that the 1,650-acre resort is a favorite among visitors to the island.
Resting among 23,000 acres of a private pineapple plantation, the master-planned Kapalua resort area boasts a range of activities designed for any taste. Visitors can golf, snorkel, hike or simply relax poolside.
And while the resort’s amenities take center stage, visitors should not bypass the Kapalua area’s many natural wonders.
Five bays with a trio of white-sand beaches line Kapalua’s shoreline. Beachgoers here are often rewarded with visits from monk seals, frequent guests to this popular resort.
Kapalua also features an ancient Hawaiian burial ground, a native rainforest and a marine life conservation district. There is plenty, then, for nature lovers to enjoy at this Maui destination.
Of course, the manmade pleasures here are impressive, too. Kapalua features two highly regarded resort-style accommodations: the Kapalua Villas and the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Resort. The Ritz-Carlton is especially striking. Its more than 460 rooms boast amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and the neighboring island of Molokai.
For those guests ready to leave their rooms, Kapalua offers a pair of top-notch tennis complexes, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking and a maze of walking and jogging paths. Guests looking for fun of an indoor nature can shop in more than 20 boutiques and galleries.
Of course, golf is a prime draw here, too. Kapalua offers three championship golf courses, all of which rank as some of the best that Maui can boast.
Not only are the courses challenging, they are also surrounded by the amazing natural scenery of Maui. It’s no surprise, then, that the golf here has attracted international attraction. For instance, each year, Kapalua’s Plantation course hosts the well-regarded Mercedes-Benz Championship. This event is the opening tournament of the PGA season.
Kapalua received its due in 2004, when the area earned a place on Conde’ Nast Traveler’s 2004 Gold List as one of the “World’s Best Places to Stay.” Kapalua’s combination of both man-made and natural beauty makes this an obvious, and correct, selection.
Still, many tourists overlook Kapalua when planning their trips to Maui. Don’t let this happen to you!
Sites such as Lahaina town, the Seven Sacred Pools and the magnificent Haleakala dormant volcano tend to grab the attention of most tourists.
But while the Kapalua resort area may not receive the press given to other sites on Maui, it’s a region that tourists should schedule some time to explore.
Even for visitors not staying in one of the region’s world-class resorts, Kapalua offers a host of reasons for a visit.
