A 42-year-old Kihei woman became Maui’s first traffic fatality of the year Tuesday night when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle while standing in a lane on Piilani Highway in Kihei.

A Maui woman was killed lastnight after a car hit her in Kihei. Maui Police say the accident happened around nine o’clock. The 23 year-old driver of an SUV collided into a 42 year old woman who was standing on Piilani highway near kulanihakoi street.
